Easter Card Inspiration

Looking for a little Easter card inspiration? You've come to the right place! Here are some "Beautiful Things" to get those creative juices flowing:

The text for the background in the above cards is Matthew 28:1-10 which is the story of the women coming to Jesus' tomb and finding it empty. Yay!

A couple other beautiful Easter cards...

Feeling inspired? I hope you are!

Love the cards but don't want to make them yourself? They are available in my shop here.

Easter Egg Fillers {Cardboard Trucks and More!}

Here's a blast from the past with an Easter post that was originally published in 2012.

Aren't they adorable? I'm so excited about how they turned out! They're a version of the "Small Wooden Trucks" in the book Made To Play by Joel Henriques. You can find info about the book here and Joel's blog here. I'd really recommend at least stopping by his blog, but the book is definitely worth the buy.

I used his templates but did them on cardboard instead of wood. You could easily make your own designs too (I'm just not that great at that kind of thing) :-) Then instead of using a wood burner to create the details I used a Sharpie after I applied watercolor paints.

They're super cool, but the main reason I made these is because most of them are small enough to fit into plastic Easter eggs!
I'm also making cardboard versions of the "Small Wooden Animals" in the book. Those aren't quite ready yet though. These are a nice alternative to candy. :-)

Well that was a nice trip down memory lane! We still get the cardboard toys out from time to time over a year later. They're great to take to a restaurant! I may just make more this year.

Would you like a few more Easter ideas? Here are more from 2012:

Top 10 Posts of 2012

Happy New Year's Eve to you all!! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas and a Happy New Year! I'm celebrating today by sharing my top 10 posts of 2012 (according to Google Analytics). Thank you all for making this a wonderful year for Taking Time to Create! I had a little party with every comment and seeing my page views increase over the past few months. It was even a little exciting (at first anyway) to have spammers commenting, because that meant that someone or something was finding my little blog.

I hope you'll continue to join me in 2013!

Easter Weekend {Volcano Egg Coloring}

We had a fantastic Easter weekend, and I think I may have really worn myself out! I was going, going all weekend, and we did everything we had planned here.

See the beautiful eggs above? We created those on Saturday using the Volcano Egg Dyeing technique I originally saw here at Toddler Approved! It was so much fun and the results were really, really cool.

  • You basically make a paint out of baking soda, water, and food coloring.
  • After painting the eggs with the baking soda pains, you drop food coloring directly onto the eggs. The more colors the more fun.
  • Then, you pour vinegar over the eggs and watch the eruption!
We did this on paper plates with a good lip, so the eggs wouldn't roll off. We did the regular dipping the eggs in the dye technique too. My little guy really seemed to enjoy it. :-) The "tie dye" looking eggs are the ones make with the volcano technique.
Our coordinating outfits came out nicely for Easter day. I mentioned that I made my dress, and it turned out great!
There was Easter egg hunting...
And a little "mowing" (and bike riding-thus the helmet)...
Then we walked to the park...
And we spotted some pretty blooms on the way back from the park.
There's a little view of our weekend. We enjoyed the time with family and the wonderful reminder that Easter brings of the love Jesus has for us all.  I hope yours was as blessed as ours.

P.S. I even created a new recipe this weekend for Peanut Butter Banana Bread. Be sure to check back on Recipe Thursday this week for that!

Easter Weekend Plans

It's a gloomy, foggy, rainy morning here in Colorado. It's one of those mornings that you'd just like to curl up on the couch under a blanket and read or watch a movie. So, I'm snuggled up for a little while to write this post, but then I've got to get to work getting ready for this weekend! We've got all kinds of plans, and in case you're still looking for some Easer ideas, I thought I'd share some of them with you.

Tomorrow afternoon and evening we are going to have an Easter Egg Dyeing party. We'll probably keep it simple and just do the food coloring, water and vinegar dying since our little guy is only two, but there are some great ideas out there that I'd love to try. We'll see how adventurous we're feeling tomorrow. Here's some of those great ideas:

Volcano Egg Dyeing from Toddler Approved! looks like fun and may be something we can try out with our little guy. There are some great ideas for what to do with those eggs after dyeing them too.

I had to go on a bit of a "hunt" (haha, get it?) to find the original source for this pin. When I saw it, I thought it was done using stickers, but it turns out they used leaves! I think I may still experiment with using stickers though.

There are a few more egg dyeing ideas on my Easter's A Hoppin' board on Pinterest.

We're having my little guys grandparents over to participate in the egg dyeing. He's the only grandchild on both sides, so they both like to be part of these little events. It's so awesome! Anyway, since we're doing it around dinnertime, we're going to eat dinner together too. I wanted something simple for dinner, so we're going to have spaghetti using the recipe below from Six Sisters' Stuff.

I'm also planning on making this yummy dessert from Woven Home. It's a little more involved than the spaghetti, so I may make it ahead of time today or in the morning. We'll see. It looks sooooo good though!

Sunday we're going to church of course, and I made my Easter dress. I'm hoping to get a family picture, so I'll share pictures of it later. We'll probably give our little guy his Easter basket after church (see what we're putting in it here). We're going to my husband's parents for Easter lunch and I'm going to make these cupcakes from Yesterday on Tuesday for dessert:

We'll have an Easter Egg Hunt of course and here's what we're putting in the eggs. My little guy will be the only one hunting, so it's all about him. :-)
  • Cardboard Trucks
  • Finger Puppets
  • Stickers
  • Chapstick
  • Coins (don't worry we'll supervise him with these) :-)
  • Little snacks like Goldfish crackers and Cheerios
I'll be sure to take lots of pictures, so I can share how everything turns out!

DIY Easter Egg Grass

Does that plastic Easter egg grass drive you crazy? I don't have too much experience with it since my little guy is so little, but I remember my mom not being a huge fan, so I figured I'd make an alternative.

I cut strips of paper about 1/2 an inch wide and then used my paper crimper (I think I've seen them at Hobby Lobby) to crimp the pieces of paper. That's it. Simple.

Here's a few things I've got planned for my little guy's basket. We're keeping it simple this year.
  • The basket is a bucket with a shovel (he loves shovels)
  • Crayons and animal coloring pages
  • Toy bugs
  • Sidewalk chalk (he's a little young but this is something I plan to do with him)
  • Bath toys
  • A book with stories about Jesus.
What are you putting in your little ones' Easter basket? I'd love for you to leave a comment with your ideas.

Paper Animal Finger Puppets

I've been trying to come up with some ideas for egg fillers other than candy. One of the ideas I found was finger puppets. A lot of the ones I found were made of felt, but I wanted to make mine from paper. What can I say? I have A LOT of paper, so I wanted to use some of it up.

Here's the basic instructions. I used tacky glue.

  • Punch two circles from the same color (The sheep was actually one white circle and one gray scalloped circle).
  • Cut ears and glue in between the two circles.
  • Glue the "googly" eyes in place.
  • Glue the "snout" in place if appropriate.
  • Draw the face and details with a fine Sharpie
  • Create the pouch for the finger from a scrap of paper. I cut the paper into a strip, wrapped it around my finger to get the right size, folded the top over, and then glued the whole thing to the back of the puppet. I wanted the top to be closed so my little guy could use them without them falling down on his finger.
Pretty cute!
They all fit great into the Easter eggs too. :-)

Here's a great post with non-candy egg filler ideas or for more Easter ideas you can check out my Easter's A Hoppin' board on Pinterest.
