ABC Baby Card {A Quick Tutorial}

I made this card a couple weeks ago for a baby shower, and the hardest thing about making this card was finding the font I wanted to use. Seriously, it's that easy!

Print "abcdeBabyfgh" on a piece of white card stock. Mine is almost centered on the page; it's just a little lower than centered. Cut two pieces of coordinating paper the same width of the card and glue them beneath the sentiment. My green piece overlapped the blue piece.

That's it folks!

More Information About Making This Card:
This piece was inspired by a card I saw in an older issue of Paper Crafts Magazine I was flipping through at the library.

The font I used was Brady Bunch

You can download a PDF the template I created here to use or to give you an idea of how to line up your text. It will print to a 8.5x11 sheet of paper, and you'll want to cut that piece of paper in half to create your card base.

Happy Card Making!

Easter Card Inspiration

Looking for a little Easter card inspiration? You've come to the right place! Here are some "Beautiful Things" to get those creative juices flowing:

The text for the background in the above cards is Matthew 28:1-10 which is the story of the women coming to Jesus' tomb and finding it empty. Yay!

A couple other beautiful Easter cards...

Feeling inspired? I hope you are!

Love the cards but don't want to make them yourself? They are available in my shop here.

Leaf Stamping?!?

Did you know you can stamp with leaves? Yeah, you totally can. You can do it any time of year, but I always have the urge to this time of year.

These cards were stamped with an actual leaf and white ink. Aren't they lovely? And now for a close up...
It's one of my favorite techniques, and oh yeah...it's FREE. Gotta love that!

Head on out to your yard or park and gather some leaves. It's a fun technique!
(Just make sure your leaves aren't dried out or they'll crumble)

Card Week: Card 3 {Friendly Mr. Lion}

We're having a card party here at Taking Time To Create with a whole week of card posts! Read this post for more details about card week.

Welcome to the final day of Card Week!

I'd like to introduce you to Friendly Mr. Lion. He's my absolute favorite!

Just look at that face...

And those cute feet...

He's wishing that special someone a Happy Birthday!

Would you like to make a Friendly Lion card of your own?
Here's a little step-by-step just for you:
  • Start with that standard white card stock base measuring 4.25 x 5.5 inches when folded portrait style.
  • Cut a piece of blue card stock measuring 4 x 5.25 inches and glue it to your base.
  • Cut a piece of green card stock measuring 3.75 x 5 inches and glue it to the blue piece.
  • To create Mr. Lion:
    • Start with the body...
      • I sort of free handed a template for the shape of the body (don't forget the tail!). Once you've got that created, you can cut out the shape of the body from a light yellow card stock.
      • Add the details of the feet, legs, and tail with water colors.
      • Glue onto the green piece but be sure to leave enough room for the sentiment below it.
    • The mane is just a scalloped oval (or flower) measuring about 3.5 x 3.75 inches. I used my computer to create a template. Once you have the template created, cut out the mane from orange card stock, and glue on top of the green card stock and lion body.
    • The face...
      • Cut out a circle measuring two inches in diameter. I have a tool that I used for this, but you could probably create a template using your computer. Glue to the mane.
      • Glue on the googly eyes. I just used a glue stick at first for this and they ended up falling off. Something like tacky glue will work a lot better.
      • The nose is cut from a piece of black card stock. It's basically an upside-down triangle with rounded edges, or you could think of it as a squashed strawberry without the leaves. You could also draw it with a Sharpie like the smile...
      • Draw the smile with a fine tipped Sharpie.
  • Now you're finished with Mr. Lion! Stamp your sentiment below him and you're finished!

Card Week: Card 2 {So Lovely Pink Butterfly}

We're having a card party here at Taking Time To Create with a whole week of card posts! Read this post for more details about card week.
Butterflies and glitter, anyone? I know a few little girls who would love a card like this. I couldn't just do the purple and pink thing, though. I wanted to add a little "punch" with a little more color. What's better for some "punch" than a little orange and yellow?
It's a lighter, mellower yellow, so it doesn't overpower the pink. The orange is pretty much just orange, but I tried not to go too crazy with it. There's just a little sponge daubing for the background and the birthday sentiment is in the same orange.
Oh! And you have to have glitter! I just love how it shines along side that fun patterned paper.

Ready to make your own?
Here's how to put this simple card together:
  • Start with your white card stock base measuring 4.25 x 5.5 inches when folded portrait style. Set aside.
  • Print out this template and cut it out. I'd print it on card stock if you're planning to use it more than once.
  • Cut out the butterfly wings from a patterned paper.
  • Cut out the butterfly body from a complementary color to the patterned paper. If you're going to be adding glitter, make sure you have glitter that's the same or similar color. Add your glitter to the body and then fasten the body to the butterfly wings. Set aside.
  • For the background:
    • Choose three colors of ink. I chose yellow, orange, and the same pink from the butterfly.
    • Cut a piece of white card stock measuring 3.75 x 5 inches.
    • Sponge on the inks one color at a time in a radiating pattern and starting at the center. I have yellow in the middle, orange around that, and then pink on the edges. Set aside.
  • Cut a 4 x 5.25 inch piece of card stock that complements your colors. I chose the same yellow that I used for the center of the sponge daubing. Glue to your white base.
  • Glue your background piece to that piece.
  • Glue your butterfly to the background piece. Be sure to leave enough room at the bottom for the "happy birthday" sentiment.
  • Stamp the "happy birthday sentiment under the butterfly and directly on the background piece in a complimentary color. I used the orange.
  • And you're done!

Card Week: Card 1 {Circles, Circles, Circles!}

I'm celebrating the reopening of my Etsy shop with a whole week of card posts! Read this post for more details about card week.

This has to be one of the simplest cards I've made yet. There isn't any crazy cutting, embossing, or layering. It's just simple...but lovely.

I originally made this as a "ladies'" card, but I think it could quite easily be a "men's" card too, so let's call it a "neutral" card, shall we? The key here is your color choices. You could go with even more feminine or more masculine colors to make it a little less neutral.

To make this card:

  • Start with your standard white card stock base measuring 5.5x4.25 inches once it is folded portrait style (that's 8.5x5.5 inches before it's folded).
  • Cut a white base background measuring 4x5.25 inches. Ink up the edges with a complementary ink. I used an orange since that's the ink I'll be using for the sentiments. I found a white background looked best with all the differing colors, but you can always experiment with different colors. Glue the background onto your card stock base.
  • Use a 1 inch circle punch to punch out 12 circles in differing colors. You can even use patterned papers. e sure you have a few white circles in the mix for your sentiments.
  • Stamp "happy birthday on the white circles and ink up the edges of those same white circles in the same fashion as the white base/background.
  • Now here comes the most difficult part...line up your circles on the white background and glue them down. I went with a random pattern. You can do this anyway you like though.
  • Give that card to the birthday guy or gal. :-)
Here are some more detailed pictures:
My "happy birthday" circles.

Some of the circles lined up. It really isn't too difficult to get them lined up. Start with the corners and work your way to the middle.

More cards to come!
