14 Days of Valentine's {For $5.00!!}

Last year I did the 14 Days of Valentine's from Ashley at Mommy By Day Crafter By Night. My husband really enjoyed it, so this year I wanted to do it again but change it up a little. I wanted something with a little less sugar (but still a little of course!) and with items that either didn't cost very much, I already had, or I could make for free...and so was born the "14 Days of Valentine's for $5.00"! You may even spend less if you already have some of the items I didn't! Let's take a look:

Day 1: Hand Print Heart Card
Make for FREE
All you need is some paper (lightweight card stock or construction paper would work great), these instructions, and the "Day One" printable found at the end of this post. I wrote a little note about "The 14 Days of Valentine's", so my husband will know what he has to look forward to.

Day 2: You're the Apple of My Eye
FREE (if you keep apples in the house)
Tie the printables onto the apple stem and you're good to go. You could also get some type of apple candy if you'd prefer.

Day 3: Matches with Printables
FREE
Print off these cute printables from Camille Styles. You can even get this type of matches at the dollar store. Score! I bought a pack of ten boxes for a $1.00, and had some leftover, so this one cost me a little less than a $1.00. Woohoo!!

Day 4: Airplane Valentine
FREE
This cute Airplane Valentine is super cute, fun and easy to put together. You can simply paperclip the "Day Four" printable to one wing until it's ready to take flight.

Day 5: Valentine Jokes in Origami Hearts
FREE
Fold some of these Origami Hearts from "Describe Happy". She has all the instructions you'll need and several fun jokes to go along with the hearts.

Day 6: You're "Sweet"
$1.00
I'd say this one pretty much explains itself. You can download and print the printables pictured at the end of this post.

Day 7: I Love Us
FREE

Find a photo you already have printed and put it together with this cute printable. I sized mine, so that I can cut them apart later and frame them in 5x7 frames.
The original post I pinned no longer has a good link for downloading the printable, so I created my own and you can download it here. You just have to trim it to the desired size.

Day 8: Thanks for "Sticking" By My Side (Chapstick)
FREE
I happened to have an unopened Chapstick, but if you don't they're pretty inexpensive.

Day 9: I Wouldn't "Chews" Anyone But You
$1.00
Buy any chewy candy to go with this printable. You could also do Skittles, Starburst...you get the idea. I went with this candy, because it actually had "chewy" in the name.

Day 10: We Are "Mint" To Be
$1.00
Once upon a time, you could get mints for less than a dollar. Is that still true? I just bought what they had at the dollar store and didn't look elsewhere, so I'm not sure. If that's the case, though, this one could be done for even less than a dollar!

Day 11: Photo Postcard
FREE
Use a picture that you can print from your computer to create this photo postcard. I printed mine about 4x6 and then printed the postcard back on the reverse making sure they would like up with each other.
You can download the postcard back here

Day 12: I "Soda" Think You're Amazing
FREE
As long as you have some type of soda can in the house this one will be free!

Day 13: You Make My Heart "Glow"
$1.00
Did you know they have all kinds of glow sticks at the dollar store?

Side Note: We bought a bunch this past summer and had fun with them while camping. They're also fun on an evening road trip.

I'm still trying to decide how to "present" this one. I could just leave them in the package, but what I'd really like to try is attaching them to the printable in the shape of a heart. If you try this one, you'll have to let me know how you give it to your Valentine.

Day 14: Valentine's Day Brownies
FREE
I'm going to make heart shaped brownies for my husband to take to work that day. Of course I didn't want to make those ahead of time, but you can see where the idea came from here

Need some other fun ideas?
I also thought it would be fun to send "Conversation Texts" throughout the day of Valentine's Day. You know..."Be Mine"..."I Love You". It may even be fun to send pictures of the conversations hearts via text.

We're doing our actual Valentine's date on another day, so I'm going to create a poem and a storybook for that day. Sound scary? It's really easy with these websites and FREE! I'm excited to put them together.

Here are your FREE printables for the 14 Days of Valentine's. The links to download them are beneath each picture and will be downloaded watermark free.

Kisses For You {Last Minute Valentine}

Looking for an idea for little Valentine's still? Well, have I got a last minute valentine for you. They're cute, easy, and can easily be personalized! Oh, and the best part? I've got a free printable for you at the end of this post.

My inspiration was this cute little valentine that I spotted at I Am Mommy Here Me Roar

I tried and tried to get my little guy to take a picture with those smooching lips, but he would not cooperate. I did get some interesting pictures of him, but not quite what I was looking for. So, I looked back through my camera and found this picture.
Yes, he's about to throw "Play Clay", but I could work with it. I used the cookie cutter tool in Photoshop Elements to crop the picture into a heart shape and changed the coloring a little. I picked a background, came up with our version of the saying for the Valentine, and came up with this:
It's not exactly what I had originally pictured, but I like it just as much. The cool thing about his version is that I realized I could easily turn it into a printable for you all to use. To download, right click on the version you would like to print and save it to your computer. Then, you can print it from there. I put mine in Word first, so my printer wouldn't resize it. It's not required, but I'd love for you to follow me if you do download the printables. Thanks!

I have a version with just a plain heart:
And here's a version with an empty space.

I figured you could easily punch out your own pictures with a paper punch and adhere them to that blank spot. Or, if you've got a program like Photoshop, you might be able to add your picture like I did. The printables should print at six inches wide, so if you leave a 1/4 inch border around them, they're just about perfect for putting on a Ziplock baggie. I left a little extra at the top, so I could fold them over and staple the baggie inside the printable. I hope you enjoy the printables!

Day 4 Revised {You're My Other Half}

I did a little revising for day 4 of 14 Days of Valentines. Day 4 was Love Potion. I was going to get my husband a small bottle of one of his favorite drinks: Arizona Tea's Half Tea & Half Lemonade. I couldn't find a small bottle...just a large container of it, so I decided to go with it and make a new printable (since the original wouldn't work with a large container). Here's what I came up with for it: "You're My Other Half". I used the base of one of Ashley's printables and added my own saying. I found the font here.

I think the play on words goes nicely with the rest of the printables that Ashley at Mommy By Day...Crafter By Night created. If you'd like to see Ashley's version of Day 4, click here.

He's really going to like this day as he really, really likes this stuff, but we don't buy it often. I have to say that I'm pretty excited to give it to him too. :-)

3 New Valentine's Day Cards

I pulled together a few more Valentine's Day cards the other day and here they are! Enjoy!
Hand Stitched Heart Card

I hand stitched a heart with embroidery thread, layered a few different colors of cardstock, and put together the sentiment, "i heart you".

As usual, I didn't want to free hand it, so I traced the heart on the back of the white sheet of cardstock to keep myself on track.
Stenciled Hearts Card
This one was simple. I stenciled different sizes of hearts on the base and then added a glittery clear embossing powder to the smaller hearts.

Glittery Embossed Card
I actually did a little free handing on this one! I stamped the heart but free handed the "i" and the "u". I'm still loving the brads, so I added three gem topped brads. For a tip on getting your brads to lay down flat, read this post.
Glitter Embossed Border
For a little added detail, I added a glittery embossed border.
Inner Sentiment
I added the sentiment "Happy Valentine's Day" to the inside of all the cards. I hope you're inspired!

Valentine's Day Card Tutorial & New Etsy Shop!

Oh boy, oh boy! I am so excited to share that I now have my Etsy shop up! People have been telling me for a while that I should try to sell my cards, so I thought I would give it a try. You can check out my shop here. My first items are Valentine's Day cards, and here's what they look like:

Cute, right? I think so. :-)

Oh, yes. I mentioned a tutorial. I'm going to share with you a little bit about how I made this card. I started with a plain sheet of white cardstock, cut it in half, and then folded the half in half (is that confusing? I hope not).  I embossed the hearts in three different colors of embossing powder. That's right, three. Here are the colors I chose:

I don't like to freehand things if I can help it,but I didn't have a stamp that big. What to do? I made a heart shaped template that I was happy with and then traced around the edges with my handy dandy Versamark pen/marker. On a side note, a tip for creating a symmetrical heart: fold a piece of paper in half and then cut half of your heart on the fold. When you open it back up, both sides will be the same.

Once all that embossing was done, I created my "Linked By Love" sentiment piece. The sentiment is a stamp that I got at Hobby Lobby eons ago. I stamped that in red on white cardstock and then cut a piece of red cardstock that was about 1/2 an inch "longer" than it would need to be if I were just wanting to create a small border. This gave me room for the brads at the bottom.

I love using brads lately. They can add detail and a little pizzazz. Love 'em!

Here's a little hint about using brads. After you get them folded down in the back, pound them down a little with a little hammer (or something heavy).

Then instead of this...

...you'll have this...

...which makes it a lot easier to fasten your piece down.

Once I got the "Linked By Love" piece together I fastened it to the front of the card. I added the inner sentiment.

Voila! The card is now complete. I'd love to hear what you think of my card. Please feel free to leave comments and/or ask questions and don't forget to stop by my new Etsy shop!
