Dr. Seuss-A-Thon Week 1 {The Cat in the Hat Books}

This was the first week of our Dr Seuss-A-Thon, and the books were The Cat in the Hat and The Cat in the Hat Comes Back. Here are some fun activities that we did or are still planning to do today and this weekend.

Read the books!
I personally like the first one best. but the second one is cute too. I do like how the second one incorporates the ABC's.

Watch the movies
There's the "live action" one of course, but there are also several cartoons. I'm hoping to find some at the library today for us to watch this weekend. If you do it that way, it's free!

Do some crafts
We made these fun hats to wear. We just decorated the front and then taped strips of construction paper to form a band to fit on our heads. It worked pretty well. I found the printable for the hat here.

Play some games
This game from Catch My Party looks fun:

It also might be fun to play a modified version of "UP-UP-UP with a fish!". You could try stacking blocks or other safe items as high as possible until they fall. I'd probably skip the fish though, since most of us don't have one of those awesome machines to pick up all our playthings like the cat did!

Fly kites
I'd recommend doing it outside unlike Thing One and Thing Two. We don't want to get our mother's new dress on the string of our kite!

Cat in the Hat Food
I made these bite sized "pizzas" and stacked them on top of each other. I just mixed up a bread sticks recipe and cut out one large and a few smaller circles. Then I baked them with cheese on top. When they were finished baking, I just put pizza sauce in between.

Some other fun ideas are strawberries and bananas stacked or bananas and jam/jelly stacked.

Goldfish crackers would also go with the theme since we have the fish in the first book.

Have you come up with any other fun Cat in the Hat activities? I'd love it if you shared them!
