Pinned It. Tried It. Loved It. {Week 2}

If you're pinning, please be sure to pin from the original source or repin from my pins on Pinterest, so the original authors get the credit. :-)

These are easy and delicious!

We make these Copy Cat Chick-Fil-A Nuggets from The REAL Housewives of Riverton all the time. They're just fantastic!

You'll need some sauce to go with those nuggets. This Chick-Fil-A sauce recipe from Kneady Sweetie is our favorite.

We're all about food today, so why not end with dessert? This Chocolate Silk Cheese Cake from Woven Home was absolutely to die for. So delicious!

Braided Curtain Tie Backs

After changing color schemes in our master bedroom with the new paint and headboard, the old blue curtain tie backs just didn't work anymore.

I wanted something that would tie in all the new colors though.
What to do? Well, braid them all together of course!
I still had some fabric left from the headboard and some other fabric in the same colors that I ended up not using on the headboard.

I cut the fabrics into strips about 2 inches wide and about twice as long as I wanted the tie backs to be leaving the edges raw. Then I followed the tutorial from Make It and Love It for braided headbands and created two braided strips for each tie back. Since they weren't a stretch fabric like with the headbands, I skipped stretching out the fabric. Once each braided strip was finished a sewed them together side by side by hand (I sort of used a whip stitch) and added a piece of fabric on each end.
The fabric helped to finish off the edges of the braids and provides a smoother surface for sewing on the Velcro. Each piece of fabric was actually a sort of pocket that fit over the ends of the braids. Once the Velcro was attached, they were finished and ready to use on the curtains!

I love having all the colors of the room braided together!

Fall Activity {Zoo Trip}

Going to the zoo seems like a spring or summer activity, right? Well, even though it's technically still summer by the calendar, Fall is definitely in the air around here. We found out yesterday that this is the perfect time to go to the zoo. The weather is cooler AND there are far fewer people there (everyone's back in school and the schools aren't too many doing field trips yet). We practically had the zoo to ourselves!

And the sights we saw...

This guy was up and around instead of sleeping like many other times that we've been there.

Even though I didn't get the best picture, I still had to share this one as proof that we saw these guys. In all the years that they've had the wolf exhibit at our zoo, I've NEVER seen one. We were really excited to finally see them!

This picture's not the best either, but isn't he adorable? This baby boy gorilla was born August 14th. It's not too common for gorillas to be born in zoos, so he's pretty special.

These pictures look like I may have taken them in some kind of art gallery, don't they?

Take a closer look...
See him? That's a gecko in there! The building was full of surprises like that. Pretty cool.

I definitely recommend heading to a zoo on a nice day this fall. We had so much fun!

Cute Robot Card {Birthday Card for Boys}

Isn't he just adorable?

I can't take any credit for coming up with him though.

You can find him here at Sewing Barefoot. She even has a template!

All I did differently was add some brads for eyes.
I just love him!

You could use him for any occasion. I added a "happy birthday sentiment on the inside to make it a birthday card.

Head on over to Sewing Barefoot if you'd like to make your own little robot card.

Pinned It. Tried It. Loved It.

Oh, Pinterest!
We all love it,don't we?
I have pins upon pins
(maybe not as many as some, but I'm getting there)
Sometimes those pins are great...
...sometimes they don't turn out as well as you thought they would.
Sometimes you never try them at all.

So, I'm  going to start something new here at Taking Time To Create.
I'd like to share with you things that we've pinned, actually tried and loved in our house.

This Sweet and Sour Chicken from Quilted Euphoria was the FIRST  recipe I pinned. We've had it several times and LOVE it. My Dad, who's pretty picky, even loved it!

I use this Birthday Calendar printable from Craftaphile all the time since I send out birthday cards to all my family members (and I have a BIG family).

I made one of these Mini Pumpkin Wreaths from Snowflakes & Dragonflies last Fall. It was super cute and lasted quite a while.

Slow Cooker Cream Cheese Chili from Six Sisters' Stuff. We make this all the time. So good.

I made these Breakfast Cups from Adventures of our Fami-ly for our monthly family birthday party. There weren't any left, so that's a good indication that they were delicious!

I have a lot more pins to share next week, so drop back on by!

Disneyland Countdown

We're going to Disneyland, and I'm so excited about it! We've a while yet to go, but my sister and I really wanted to do SOMETHING for it. A countdown was the perfect thing! We loved this pin. The original pin was an uploaded picture, so we set to work recreating it. Here's our version:
Remind you of anyone? It's Mickey! Since my little guy LOVES Mickey, this was perfect!

We made one "Mickey" for each day that we have left.
That's a lot of Mickey's!

How we made them:
  • Each Mickey is made up of 3 paper rings and there is a white one connecting each Mickey.
  • Each ring was one inch wide and 9 inches long (the width of a piece of construction paper). We used staples to connect the ends of the rings.
  • Mickey's head:
    • Made using one ring of black construction paper and two circles punched with a 1 1/4 inch circle punch.
    • We wrote the date on one "ear" and how many days until Disney on the other "ear". I have a white pen; you could also use something like a white crayon or colored pencil.
    • Fold a little flap at the bottom of the ears and staple them to the black ring.
  • Mickey's body:
    • We used a regular hold punch to punch little white circles and glued two to each red ring for the buttons on Mickey's pants.
    • It's best to glue the white circles on before you create the ring.
    • Put the glue on the circles (not on the red paper). It may show on the red paper once it dries, so this will help avoid extra glue showing.
  • Mickey's shoes
    • Just a plain yellow ring here. Nothing to add to it
  • Our process:
    • We cut and punched all our pieces ahead of time (i.e. all the strips of paper, all the black circles, all the white circles).
    • Glued the white circles to each red strip of paper.
    • Attached the black, red, and yellow pieces together until we had enough.
    • Connected all the pieces
      • Wrote a date and countdown number on two ears and attached them to a black ring.
      • Attached the black ring to a yellow ring (the bottom of a Mickey) with one of our white strips.
Then you'll have a lot of these!

And since I couldn't leave them on my fence...
...I moved them inside, but separated the chain. I wanted each Mickey to be hanging the right way (if they're all attached, you'll get upside-down Mickeys).

One Disney project down. How many more will there be? Who knows? I've got all kinds of ideas swimming around in my head. I'm so, so excited!
